-help students apply simple concepts to different contexts in order to solve variety of problems
-build problem-solving skills instead of insisting on rote memorization
-teach independent and free-thinking at early elementary ages
-center lessons around needs and student-experience
-allow ELL students many access points to each lesson
-use pacing to keep students engaged
-model authentic learning so students can practice being authentic
-highlight identity to help students access lessons
-use procedures and routines to promote independence with learning and joyful experiences
