About Vicki
Hello! My name is Vicki and I am a friendly, patient and approachable online science tutor who is passionate about helping students build their knowledge, confidence and enjoyment of science.
I understand that GCSE science can sometimes seem difficult or overwhelming, so I take a calm and supportive approach to learning. I aim to break down challenging topics into clear, manageable steps and explain concepts in a way that is easy to understand. I encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes and learn at their own pace, creating a positive environment where they can feel comfortable and confident.
Whether a student needs help understanding a particular topic, strengthening their knowledge or building confidence towards GCSE level, I will work with them to identify areas for improvement and support their progress. I am reliable, professional and committed to providing lessons that are engaging, structured and tailored to each student's individual needs.
My goal is not only to help students improve their science knowledge, but also to help them develop the confidence and skills they need to become more independent learners.

My approach to tutoring is friendly, patient, supportive and tailored to each individual student. I understand that everyone learns differently, so I take the time to identify a student's strengths, areas for improvement and preferred learning style.
My Teaching Methodology
I like to break difficult scientific topics down into clear, manageable sections, using straightforward explanations, diagrams, examples and questions to help students understand rather than simply memorise information. I encourage students to ask questions and explain concepts in their own words, as this helps me identify any gaps in understanding.
I also use regular recap questions and short activities to check understanding throughout the lesson. Where appropriate, I incorporate exam-style questions and revision exercises to help students become familiar with applying their knowledge and develop confidence ahead of assessments.
I have a large portfolio of ready-made science lessons and resources covering topics up to GCSE level, which means I can provide structured lessons from the very first session. I can also adapt these resources to suit the student's individual ability, curriculum and learning objectives.
Typical Lesson Length
I am happy to offer 60 minute lessons, which provides enough time to introduce a topic, explain the key concepts, practise questions and finish with a recap of what has been learned. I can shorten/lengthen the lesson length where appropriate depending on the student's age, concentration level and individual requirements.
My Qualifications & Experience
I hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Applied Zoology from Liverpool John Moores University and an MSc in Primate Conservation (2:1) from Oxford Brookes University.
I have previous experience supporting university students as a Student Enabler with Claro Learning at Plymouth University, including students with additional learning needs such as dyslexia and autism. I also have experience teaching English to Spanish students, where I planned lessons and adapted my teaching approach to individual learners.
My scientific background also includes research into lowland gorilla behaviour at Paignton Zoo and field research at the Los Cedros Biological Reserve in Ecuador, giving me valuable practical experience in biology, animal behaviour, ecology, conservation and scientific research.
I also hold an Advanced Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, an Advanced Certificate in Teaching Mindfulness to Young Learners and Teenagers, an Advanced Certificate in Mindfulness Skills for TEFL Teachers, and an OCN Level 3 qualification in Applying Note Taking to the Needs of Learners with Disabilities.
Who My Lessons Are For
I primarily offer lessons for students studying Science and Biology up to GCSE level. I can support students who are:
Preparing for GCSE Science or Biology
Struggling with particular science topics
Looking to improve their grades
Catching up with missed or difficult work
Wanting to build confidence in Science
Looking for additional revision and exam preparation
Interested in Biology, Zoology, animals, ecology or conservation
My goal is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at their own pace. Science can be challenging, but with the right support and explanations, I believe every student can make progress and become more confident in their abilities.
