About Esther
As a student, I understand that it can often be difficult to grasp the wider meaning of a text or to fully comprehend what an exam or essay question is asking from you. Studying can be very daunting, but it can also be really fun.
I am a friendly and engaging tutor who will try my absolute best to tailor each session to the student's needs, whether that be through providing specific resources they find helpful, to breaking down key concepts in a simple way. I am a keen listener and will adopt new approaches wherever possible. Students don't need to feel that they need to know everything in our sessions; making mistakes is more than okay and is actively encouraged! The ethos I bring to the classroom is this: we all have to start somewhere, so don't worry if you don't get it all on the first go.
I am an open and friendly person who loves reading and watching documentaries! I really enjoy learning about a variety of pop culture topics and enjoy engaging with these through podcasts, films, and journal articles.
I have always worked hard at school and at university but have often struggled with my confidence, which means I really appreciate having a supportive mentor or teacher to guide me. I will try and be that supportive mentor for you!

I like my lessons to run between 45 minutes and 1 hour, to maintain focus and develop skills in smaller but still core and engaging steps.
I will tailor each session to the student's needs to ensure that these lessons are as effective as possible. Having had a tutor when I was a GCSE student, I understand how being a tutee is often intense and a bit scary - I want to make clear that my sessions are a safe space to make mistakes and to make light of those mistakes! Learning is a journey and I would like these sessions to help take the pressure off along that journey :)
If you find specific resources or methods of explanation useful, I will endeavour to use these where I can in the sessions, to make students feel more comfortable about learning.
I will spend time breaking down exam/essay questions with students and using appropriate mark schemes to lay the groundwork for essay responses, then work with students on key concepts and essay structure. I like engaging with historical context and helping students recognise how understanding context will highlight the political/social/economic/cultural importance of a historical event.
As a strong essay writer, I use my sessions to equip students with excellent writing phrases to better structure their ideas, to draft compelling introduction and conclusion templates, and to show them how to coherently organise their ideas within timed exam conditions.
I received A*s in my History and English Literature A-Levels and have since been awarded a First Class in History at UCL. I received Level 9 in both of these subjects at GCSE and have taught GCSE students throughout 2026. I have a strong foundation in writing and performing well in exams and would like to share some of my tips with others.
