About Marcus
I am a current Master's student at Oxford in Byzantine Studies, where I combine my love of History and classical languages. I studied at a state secondary and sixth form in Winchester, achieving four A*s at A-level in History, Latin, Mathematics and EPQ. I then studied History at Oxford, graduating with a First.
I have tutored History at both school level and for Oxbridge entrance, and have experience teaching younger children on summer schools. I've also done extensive outreach work for Oxford, encouraging and supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply there.

For me, the best learning comes from discussion: I try to tutor via a two-way conversation as much as possible, to weave in new content around what the tutee may know already. This also allows us to talk about connections between different areas of content, and to practice the analytical skills needed in the exams. I try to build up the different exam skills wholistically as we move through content. For example, in History tutoring, I try to build in analysis of sources and interpretations to discussion around areas of knowledge students need to have. I have extensive experience in reading and writing essays, and provide detailed feedback on students’ written work. I aim to convey my enthusiasm of the subject as much as possible, and to build in the implications of what we learn for the modern world, as part of the student’s wider education.
