About Rebecca
I have over four years of experience teaching music lessons of a practical nature (singing and piano) alongside my training to become a classroom practitioner. I enrolled on the University of Cambridge PGCE course in 2017 which is recognised for its emphasis on research informed teaching practice. I have built a track record of essays of high quality which demonstrate effective methodology and research, referencing and bibliography skills, critical thinking/argument, historical research and musical analysis.
Since gaining qualified status I have taught in a variety of schools around Cambridge including a school for students with severe special educational needs, a community college and, most recently, a highly academic international boarding school. I have taught students aged 11-18 across all abilities and according to the following specifications: the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (IBDP); Edexcel A Level and GCSE; OCR GCSE. I also have experience as an Extended Essay Supervisor according to the IBDP programme. I have seen many students pass through exams and some go on to study music at prestigious Russell Group universities (including Oxford University).
I am also certified to teach psychology on the IBDP programme and would therefore be appropriate to support anyone researching in the domain of music psychology.

My lessons are geared towards high school students aged 14-18 or music undergraduates who are looking for additional tutoring towards examinations or essay supervision. I aim to have a consistent approach towards deadlines and have high expectations of all my students, yet I also aim to be approachable and convey my true enjoyment in study of music.
My methods will depend on the examination or submission you are working towards. There may be some theoretical work required in order to build analysis or aural skills, or the focus may be on the quality of argument and use of language.
I believe the most effective forms of pedagogy (teaching methodology) are personalised and inquiry based learning therefore it is likely that our lessons will consist in either me framing questions or giving feedback. Therefore it will be necessary for you to bring independent work completed outside of our lessons as evidence for us to discuss during lesson time.
