About Aisling

I am a recent graduate from the University of Leeds in French and International Relations. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at university learning French and hope to continue to engage with the language by helping other learners with their French studies.

Having travelled to France multiple times throughout my time as a language learner, I am passionate about all things surrounding the French culture and language. During college, I took part in a French exchange to the South-East of France in a town called Valence, which was an unforgettable experience and opportunity to practice speaking French. I have also taken several trips to other areas of France including Paris and Marseille.

Outside my French studies, I enjoy indoor climbing (or bouldering), cooking and reading.

I take a very student/pupil-led approach to my tutoring as I think this is most appropriate for the nature of learning a language given the various skills and aspects of the subject. For example, if there is a particular area of French a student is struggling with, such as grammar, reading, listening etc, I would plan my sessions around this. I would then specialise further after finding out what particular areas of these skills we need to focus on. For instance, if a student is struggling with grammar, we would establish what specific areas of grammar need covering - whether that be verbs, tenses, adjectives and so on.

I have plenty of resources at my disposal which I could introduce to our sessions which I have used personally throughout my time as a French student at college and university. Having spent 6 months taking an online intensive language course with the Alliance Française, I have access to excellent quality resources.

In terms of my teaching methodology, I take a very practical approach and would hope to spend our sessions together completing exercises in areas which the student is struggling with. I believe that this is essential when learning a language, as the best way to develop your skills is practice.

I can help students from GCSE up to A-Level - depending on how the student would feel, I would also be happy to conduct my sessions in French, and mixture of French/English or English.

Overall, I want to express how flexible and open I would be as a tutor, and once I have established what areas a student would hope to cover, I would tailor my sessions accordingly.

Thanks!
