About Indigo
I come from a family of English teachers, with both of my parents and all of my grandparents having taught the subject, so literature has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always loved reading and writing and consistently performed highly in both throughout my education. Studying literature at degree level gave me a rigorous classical grounding in the subject and deepened my appreciation of the way great texts can challenge, move and inspire us. I want to teach because I would like to share that enthusiasm with other students and help them discover the same enjoyment and confidence in literature that has shaped my own academic life. Seeing a student become genuinely engaged with a text and realise that they are capable of producing thoughtful, perceptive analysis is one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring, and it is this combination of academic achievement and a genuine love of literature that motivates me to teach.

I believe that students do their best in English Literature when they find something in a text that genuinely interests or moves them. My aim is to help students see literature as more than a set of quotations and exam techniques. By paying close attention to language, ideas and context, we uncover what makes a work memorable and why it continues to matter. Once students begin to enjoy the process of reading and thinking critically, their confidence grows and stronger analysis follows naturally. Exam success is important, and my lessons are always shaped by the demands of the specification, but the highest marks tend to come from students who engage with literature thoughtfully and with curiosity rather than simply learning what they think an examiner wants to hear.
