About Sarah-Jane
NB: I'm running extra sessions to help students make up for lost teaching time because of Covid! Let me know if your education is suffering or you're worried, and I will do my best to help - I'm well practised with online sessions and willing to offer flexible rates during lockdown.
Hello! My name is Sarah-Jane, and since graduating from Cambridge with a first in English Literature I have accrued a good deal of tutoring experience - plenty of time over which to develop my tutoring philosophy and style!
I can walk you through all the elements of your course, though essay writing is my particular speciality. If you're struggling to tackle your coursework, or you just think you need to develop your writing style, I have years of experience teaching students how to craft an essay to the best of their ability. I have taught classes and led workshops on essay structure and style to students of both school and university age, as well as supporting students one on one, and there are simple skills that I can teach you that will help you in all your essay-writing subjects (not just English Literature!) and make sure you get the best grades possible. This means that I can tutor you in all your essay-writing subjects, no matter the topic or content. I can help you from the beginning of your planning process, or I'm available for last-minute proof-reading and remedial coursework sessions too!
I can also help you get to grips with your core texts in the run up to your exams, and make sure that your content and analysis are as focused and persuasive as they can be. I offer focused sessions on exam technique and practice papers.
If you'd prefer sessions over Skype, at home, or somewhere else, I can be flexible. I am very friendly, personable and adaptable, and would love to hear from you with any questions you might have. Please don't hesitate to get in touch!

I got in touch with Sarah-Jane primarily to improve my essay writing skills within the subject of IB English Language and Literature, but also to conduct a deeper analysis of the books that I read for the course. Sarah-Jane was very friendly and patient throughout the few months during which she helped me getting ready for my final IB exams. She was always easy to contact and was always available for a weekly session. Some sessions were spent going over practice essays, where she provided insightful and helpful feedback on structure, grammar, and general content. The tips and tricks she taught me on essay writing ultimately helped me write my final exams in an organised and stress-free manner. I would highly recommend her to anyone wishing to improve their writing!

First thing you have to know about me is that I'm extremely lazy. Heroically lazy. SJ pulled off one of the world's top 30 remarkable feats (probably) by motivating me to work, a task many had failed at.
She helped me to have confidence in my abilities, and her knowledge of my texts (as well as the wider canon of literature) is excellent. I aced English Lit thanks to her - she's super friendly and supportive, and I recommend her wholeheartedly.
Outcome: A* in English Lit A2 and a really funny phone call from the head of English (who hates me) at my school, who had to congratulate me for getting the highest UMS in the year group. Best smug moment ever.
