About Phoebe
I am a UK final-year medical student who has spent the last few years studying, working with patients, and supporting peers in clinical and academic settings. Through my medical training I have developed strong communication skills and a calm, supportive manner that helps students feel comfortable asking questions.
I want to teach because I know first-hand how much difference a clear explanation and a supportive mentor can make when you are feeling stuck or lacking confidence. I enjoy breaking complex ideas down into simple, manageable steps. Tutoring allows me to combine my scientific background and people skills to help students build understanding, independence, and belief in their own abilities.

I take a student-centred, structured but friendly approach to tutoring with a focus on clear explanations, guided practice and regular feedback. At the start of working together, I briefly assess their current level/goals, then plan sessions around their syllabus and any upcoming assessments.
During lessons, I break content into short segments and mix explanation with questions and active recall so that students stay engaged and think for themselves. Initially I focus on making sure the student understands the basics of a subject thoroughly so then we can build on that with more complex concepts without causing confusion.
I find that exposing students to exam-questions early on helps reduce anxiety, so the student becomes comfortable with the different types of questions and we go through step-by-step methods on identifying what the question is asking of them and how to answer it accurately. I give specific, constructive feedback so students know exactly what to improve.
A typical online lesson lasts 60 minutes, which allows time to review previous material, introduce new concepts in small chunks, and practise applying them without overwhelming the student. For younger students or those who prefer shorter sessions, I can offer 45-minute lessons with the same structure but tighter focus. I have extensive experience explaining complex scientific and clinical concepts to peers and patients in clear terms.
My lessons are suitable for secondary school and sixth-form students (GCSE and A-level) and early university learners who want support in biology, human physiology, and related health or medical topics. I am also happy to support mature students or healthcare learners who need help with study skills, clinical reasoning, or exam preparation in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.
