About Fiona
I am a violin tutor with 9 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Violin Emphasis. I have guided over 300 students from young beginners through to advanced performers. My teaching focuses on bowing technique, vibrato, intonation, phrasing, and expressive musicality across classical and contemporary repertoire. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity examinations with a strong record of excellent results. I also provide orchestral preparation and ensemble coaching. My approach is patient, methodical, and adapted to each student's individual pace and goals. Let me help you build a strong expressive violin technique and a lifelong love of this beautiful instrument.

My violin lessons follow a carefully structured progression that develops physical technique, musical understanding, and performance confidence simultaneously in every session. Every lesson starts with posture review and a comprehensive warm-up of scales and targeted bowing exercises. I focus strongly on bow technique from the earliest stages as it most directly impacts tone quality and musical expression. Intonation is developed through scale work across positions, careful ear training, and consistent use of tuning technology. Students preparing for ABRSM or Trinity examinations follow the full required syllabus with regular mock assessments and detailed component-by-component feedback. Advanced students develop shifting, vibrato, double stopping, and interpretive expressive skills. Backing tracks develop ensemble awareness and musical sensitivity. For students joining orchestras I provide specific sight-reading and ensemble coaching. Clear and specific feedback is given after every performance so students always have actionable goals. My goal is for every student to develop a confident healthy technique and a deep and lasting love of playing the violin.
