About Art
I am a former Military Police Officer with a distinguished academic background and a commitment to fostering excellence in writing. My educational achievements include a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Social Sciences with minors in Psychology and Sociology, a Master’s in Criminal Justice, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy in Criminal Justice. Currently, I am pursuing a second Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, further broadening my expertise in supporting individuals academically and professionally. Throughout my career, I have developed deep experience in both professional and academic writing. My expertise includes guiding the development of theses, capstone projects, dissertations, research papers, essays, and professional resumes. These experiences have given me a comprehensive understanding of the standards and skills required to succeed at every academic level, from high school to graduate studies. As a lifelong learner, I understand the value of perseverance and the importance of mentorship. My approach to tutoring is rooted in a desire to empower students to think critically, express themselves effectively, and achieve their academic and professional goals. Writing Tutoring Lesson Description Overview I provide specialized tutoring for essay writing, dissertation or thesis development, research papers, and resumes. Designed for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, these sessions focus on empowering students to build skills, confidence, and independence in their writing. Teaching Method My coaching approach is highly involved yet student-centered. I guide and challenge students, offering clear direction while ensuring they take full ownership of their work. This method not only produces stronger results but also teaches lifelong writing skills. Typical 1-Hour Lesson Outline 1. Introduction & Goal Setting (10 minutes) - Review the student’s objectives for the session. - Discuss the assignment, prompt, or topic at hand. - Clarify specific areas of concern (e.g., structure, research, or style). 2. Guided Development (25 minutes) - Work through brainstorming, outlining, or drafting together. - I offer prompts, ask questions, and provide real-time feedback to help clarify arguments and refine organization. - Emphasis on teaching techniques for research, citation, or effective phrasing. 3. Active Application (20 minutes) - The student actively applies what we’ve discussed by working on their draft, refining their thesis, or organizing sections while I provide support as needed. - Focus on building their independence and confidence. 4. Wrap-Up & Next Steps (5 minutes) - Review progress made during the session. - Outline actionable next steps or strategies to complete the project. - Answer final questions and set goals for future sessions.
