About Vera

In my lessons, I take a practical and analytical approach to teaching chemistry, focusing on essential laboratory techniques. The sessions are relaxed yet application-focused, making complex methods approachable and relevant. Instrumental analysis forms the core of our work, showing how precision tools are used to measure and study chemicals accurately. We explore various spectroscopy techniques, including NMR, IR, and UV-Vis, learning how each method reveals unique information about molecules. Chromatography is another focus, where we discuss separating and identifying mixture components effectively. Quantitative analysis is also covered, helping you measure substances accurately and interpret results with confidence. Throughout, I connect these techniques to real lab and industrial applications, so the learning feels practical and purposeful. Lessons are designed to help students excel, whether in chemical engineering, materials science, or DIY formulation projects. Complex concepts are broken down, and their practical importance is emphasised. Together, we examine how laboratory parameters influence outcomes and optimise methods for specific goals. I guide students to apply their knowledge, troubleshoot issues, and develop confidence in handling sophisticated techniques. The aim is to make chemistry tangible, useful, and exciting. Let’s bring the lab to life in your understanding and turn theory into practical skill.

I’m a Chemistry tutor with over 5 years of experience and an MSc in Environmental Chemistry. My teaching takes a holistic and interdisciplinary approach, especially in electroplating and surface finishing chemistry. I focus on electrochemical deposition, exploring how material properties influence outcomes and how these processes are applied in industry. In my lessons, we examine electrode kinetics and bath composition, understanding how each factor shapes the quality and durability of coatings. I also guide discussions on coatings designed for aesthetics, protection, or both. Students interested in materials engineering, manufacturing, or applied chemistry find these insights particularly valuable. I emphasise connecting theory with real-world applications, helping students see how chemical principles translate to functional surfaces. Together, we explore challenges in industrial processes and strategies to optimise results. I encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and hands-on thinking throughout every session. By focusing on both the science and practical use of surface finishing, I help students develop a strong, applied understanding. Chemistry becomes more than equations; it’s a tool to innovate and improve materials. Let’s transform surfaces and create durable, functional materials with confidence and precision.
