About Imogen
I'm a first-year Experimental Psychology student at the University of Oxford, offering one-to-one A-Level Chemistry tutoring. My primary focus would be AQA, but I would be happy to help across other exam boards.
Having completed A-Levels myself with an A* in Chemistry, I understand the Chemistry specification and the exam skills needed to achieve top grades. I can help students strengthen their understanding of key topics, improve exam technique, and develop effective revision strategies. Alongside my studies, I have already had experience tutoring for A-Level, working with multiple tutees each week to help them build confidence and strengthen their exam performance. My most recent tutee improved from a C/D to an A in the mocks just before A-Levels across a few months, so I am confident in my ability to explain difficult concepts and improve understanding. I additionally have a full set of AQA A-Level Chemistry mind maps covering the whole specification, which I can supply to students for revision material.

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs and goals. At the start, I will identify areas of strength and weakness so that we can focus our time where it will have the greatest impact. Whether a student needs help understanding difficult topics, improving organic mechanisms, reviewing content, or answering maths questions, I'm here as a guide to cover the whole specification.
A typical session combines clear explanations of key concepts with active learning through discussion, exam-style questions, and regular knowledge checks. I usually start with a general overview of the topic, asking students to recover the content they already know before we focus on exam questions or further review. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for and how to answer high-mark questions; to do this, I provide model answers, talk through the methodology, and then allow students to complete questions independently, providing structured feedback as they go along. Where appropriate, I also provide revision strategies and study techniques that students can use independently between lessons - I have a full set of AQA Chemistry mind maps (that I have used to blurt from) covering and catered to the whole specification.
My lessons will be conducted online using Pencil Spaces, an interactive digital whiteboard that also includes video and audio calling (although students do not have to put their cameras on if they are not comfortable). This allows lessons to feel much more collaborative than a traditional online lesson, as both the student and I can write, draw diagrams, annotate notes, and work through questions together in real time.
My aim is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing a deeper understanding of Chemistry while making measurable progress towards their academic goals.
