About Bruce
Teaching has always been more than just a job to me - it's something I've genuinely devoted my career to. For the past 12 years, I've had the privilege of teaching Year 6, helping children grow in confidence, overcome challenges and achieve their very best in English, Maths and SPaG.
I currently hold a substantial leadership role within my school, where I support colleagues, help shape teaching and learning across the school, and work to ensure every child receives the highest quality education. This has given me a deep understanding of what makes teaching effective and how to help pupils make lasting progress.
I teach with both passion and rigour. I believe children achieve the most when they feel supported, challenged and understood. Every child is different, so I take the time to get to know how they learn best, adapting my approach to build confidence while stretching them to reach their full potential.
Whether your child needs help filling gaps in their learning, preparing for SATs or aiming for greater depth, I bring the same dedication, high expectations and encouragement to every lesson. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a child realise what they are capable of and begin to believe in themselves.

My lessons are carefully planned, purposeful and rooted in evidence-informed teaching. I have high expectations of every pupil and design learning that is closely aligned with the National Curriculum and, where appropriate, the expectations of the KS2 SATs. My aim is not simply to help children answer questions correctly, but to develop a deep, secure understanding that they can apply confidently and independently.
I use a structured approach based on the principles of effective instruction, including clear explanations, explicit modelling, guided practice and carefully scaffolded tasks. As pupils develop confidence and understanding, I gradually remove support, encouraging them to think independently and articulate their reasoning. Regular retrieval practice and purposeful questioning help strengthen long-term memory, identify misconceptions and ensure learning is embedded.
Every lesson is adapted to meet the individual needs of the learner. Whether a pupil requires additional scaffolding to secure key concepts or greater challenge to deepen their understanding, I tailor my teaching accordingly while maintaining consistently high expectations. I believe all children can make excellent progress when they are taught with clarity, challenge and encouragement.
Above all, I strive to create lessons that are calm, engaging and intellectually ambitious, where pupils feel confident to take risks, learn from mistakes and develop the resilience needed to succeed both in Year 6 and beyond.
