About Zoe
I hold a PhD in Chinese Studies and have several years of experience teaching Mandarin at university level in the UK. My academic background is in Chinese language, literature and culture, and I also hold a Chinese teaching qualification.
I enjoy helping students discover that Mandarin is much more approachable than it may initially seem. I particularly like explaining difficult language points clearly, encouraging students to speak with confidence, and adapting lessons to different learning styles and interests. Whether you are learning for study, work, travel or personal interest, I aim to provide a friendly, supportive and intellectually engaging learning environment.

My lessons are shaped around what you want to achieve. Whether you are starting Mandarin from scratch, improving your speaking, studying Chinese at university, or simply interested in Chinese language and culture, I will design the lessons around your level and interests.
In a typical 60-minute lesson, we work on practical conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar, with reading and writing added according to your needs. I have taught Chinese language classes at university level in the UK and enjoy making difficult points clear and manageable. I also provide personalised feedback and materials so that you know exactly what to work on between lessons.
