About Salena
I am a friendly and dedicated English tutor who is passionate about helping students build confidence and genuinely enjoy the subject. Studying English Literature allowed me to develop a strong love for English, which has naturally extended into my enjoyment of reading beyond the classroom. I aim to pass this enthusiasm on to my students by making lessons engaging, supportive, and encouraging.
I believe that confidence is key to success in English. I create a relaxed and positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and expressing themselves without fear of making mistakes. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them feel proud of their progress and abilities.
Alongside English, I enjoy creative hobbies such as drawing and baking, which, like English, allow me to express ideas creatively. I bring this creativity into my lessons to keep learning enjoyable and accessible. I am approachable, patient, and committed to supporting every student, and I take great pride in helping them grow academically and personally.

My tutoring approach is student-centred and tailored to each learner’s individual needs. I begin by identifying the areas where students need the most support, whether this is exam technique, essay structure, analysis, or confidence with language skills. Lessons are then planned around these focus areas to ensure steady progress.
I use a range of interactive teaching techniques, including targeted quizzes and exam-style questions, to keep students engaged and to assess their understanding at each stage. I encourage students to explain their thinking and working to me, which helps deepen their understanding and allows me to address any misconceptions immediately. I regularly check understanding by asking questions and ensuring students feel confident before moving on.
My lessons are friendly, supportive, and structured, creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. I place strong emphasis on exam practice and model answers, while also helping students develop independent thinking and strong written expression.
Lessons are typically one hour long, which I find is the most effective length for focus and productivity. However, this can be adapted if more time is needed to cover key topics or exam preparation.
I achieved BBC at A-level, including a B in English Literature, and grades 7 and 8 in GCSE English Language and Literature. I have over one year of experience tutoring GCSE students, alongside previous online tutoring experience and experience working as a primary school teaching assistant. I teach GCSE and A-level students and aim to help them build confidence, improve grades, and enjoy learning English.
