My teaching methodology as per my work as a tutor and even as an instructor considering a Socratic Method utilizing verbal questioning and considering the verbal and non-verbal input of students to promote inquiry and self-discovery of the work at hand. In regard to Writing , I start with assessing the student’s skills as a writer, actual writing and reading a written sample of writing, looking at what are higher order concerns (thesis, organization, argumentation, content) vs. lower order concerns (grammar and mechanics) in reference to their own writing or even the writing of others via self-evaluation or feedback .
When I teach I try use what I think are necessary tools, i,e: handouts, worksheets, PowerPoints Slides or of Online Research tools/ videos that enable me to consider the four learning styles: visual, auditory, reading/writing preferences, and kinesthetic, abbreviated as what is known as the “VARK” method. Only after some time and different activities between teacher and student(s), considering with planning as well as trial-and-error, what empirically works in practice, using what most consistently offers effective results for the individual student overtime as a developing writer and independent author.
