About Dr Luke

Hello students! My name is Luke, and I recently completed a PhD at the University of Bath in physics. Having enjoyed learning about science all my life, I intend to pursue a career in theoretical physics research. In the meantime, I am looking to offer help to students that may not share the same passion for science and maths as I do (yet). I teach physics and maths for GCSE and A-Level students, both subject areas in which I have a lot of previous knowledge and continue to study. I know that maths and science skills do not come naturally to everyone, and my main aim is to help students to build up their confidence and hopefully increase their enjoyment of these subjects. As well as my subject knowledge I also have recent experience revising for and passing exams and can share the study techniques that I personally find useful.

About the lesson

In my lessons, I recap the relevant theory of the topic of the day in as much detail as the exam specification requires. I like to involve the students as much as possible while doing this, and I always try to test their understanding as we progress through the content. I believe that practice is the key to success in these subjects; my lessons emphasise this by dedicating a part of each session to going through example questions step by step if requested. I then leave it to the student to decide what they would like to cover in the following session and then form a complete lesson around this.

Perfect! My son, who is studying A-level Physics is enjoying his lessons with Luke.
Luke is very organised and will ask in advance what my son needs to cover in his lessons. He delivers great sessions and written recap notes after the lesson. He’s always punctual and very professional.
My son is finding the extra cover of some of the topics invaluable and is doing really well.
