About April
My name is April, and I love helping other people communicate effectively. I have my master's degree in communication and I recently worked as a speech instructor for a university teaching college students the speaking skills they need to excel in their classes and careers. I would love to do the same for you! Speaking can be scary, but with the right tools anyone can gain confidence and become a fantastic speaker. Let me know if I can help you gain those tools and improve your speaking skills.
I believe that everyone has a valuable message to share. I have always loved giving people the tools to share that message with others. It was that passion for effective communication and for helping others that pushed me to teaching.
I have both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in communication. I used to do theater and debate, and I have competed as a speaker in the past. I have also taught speech at the college level and have helped students who believed they simply could not speak well in front of others to speak confidently and effectively.

When I first begin working with you I'll have you give me a couple of basic speeches of different types. This will help me assess where I think you could use improvement. Then we'll sit down and chat about how you want to improve. Based on that we will create a customized plan where you will work both on your own and with me to achieve your speaking goals.
I have worked with primarily college students in my speech tutoring. However, I have also instructed a variety of students in my swing dancing classes, and I have worked with elementary and middle school aged students in general academic tutoring, so I feel confident with a variety of ages and experience levels.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Consider what you want to gain from a class or a tutoring experience. It is vital that you know what your goals are so that you can know if your tutor or teacher is helping you to achieve them. However, keep in mind that your teacher may be able to suggest goals that you may not have thought about. Keep an open mind toward these goals as well and you may be able to achieve more than you originally thought!

I currently charge $20 an hour for speech tutoring. I am willing to discount this price slightly for current college students.
