About Sandy

Experienced educator for students with varying needs for 15+ years. Relocated recently from Southern California where I received a Masters Degree in Special Education. I also received a Clear Mild/Moderate teaching credential in California. I can offer patience, understanding and specialized support to help your children in completing academic task and reaching I.E.P. goals.

I enjoy getting to know my students and helping them to do their best. I enjoy being a part of the team that supports the success and self-confidence of my students.

I got started teaching after becoming a classroom aide to work within the school system to be close to my daughter as she attended school. I was a classroom aide for 7 years working at Canyon Hills School, in Anaheim, California in a preschool class for children with moderate to severe challenges. I found my passion and I pursued my education to obtain a career within this field.

I attended Chapman University in Orange, California where I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts, a Masters Degree in Special Education. During this time, I earned a Clear Mild/Moderate teaching credential.  I worked within the EL Rancho Unified School District within the Resource Specialist Program for 3 years. I worked for the Anaheim Union High School District for 13 years in both the Resource Specialist Program and in the Special Day Program supporting students in both a self-contained or mainstream class environment.

When working with a new student I do my best to get to know their strengths and weaknesses. I offer my students support and encouragement. I make sure that they learn that my job is to help supply them with the tools to help them to be succesful. I am a member of their team.

I have worked with many students with varying abilities. In my career there have been many levels of needs and services required and I am proud to say that I have always provided for their academic needs.

Students need to trust the teacher that they are considering. They need to find someone who believes in them and listens to them.

I recently attended a talent show presented by students with varying abilities and it was inspiring. The joy and excitement of the students who had the opportunity to perform for the audience was pure magic. I was proud, humbled and delighted.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should understand that teachers were also students once. Students should not be afraid or embarrassed to talk to their teachers about their needs.  Students should ask for any and all of the help they can find to support their needs.
