About Christopher
Being a skateboarder for over twenty years, I've witnessed a lot of change and progression happen in the skateboarding industry and the culture that supports it. I view skateboarding as more of a lifestyle than a sport, as more of a medium of artistic expression rather than that of athletic skill. From the perspective of a core skateboarder, changes that occur in skateboarding like the Olympics, fashion gimmicks and corporate sponsorship have little effect on the authenticity of the real skateboard scene even though it brings a much needed influx of viewership and monetary value. The older I get the more I appreciate the time I have to go out and skateboard, which is normally about three or four times a week. At the age of 31, I still find myself learning new tricks and taking advantage of every opportunity to film my friends and build DIY skatespots. Although my approach depends on each client's experience, I teach techniques that have been proven successful and have a variety of different methods for instruction based on each person's interest and technical ability. Whether its street, park or transition skating, you will be stoked by how much you learn after just a few lessons.
When I first began teaching skateboarding lessons I was a bit reluctant to meeting new people and teaching young kids who barely knew how to stand up on a board. However after my first few lessons, I saw how fantastically valuable it was to introduce my love of skateboarding to others. Not only am I showing beginners how to push, ollie and drop into halfpipes; I'm opening up a whole world of culture based on expression and perserverance. Every individual progresses based on their own pace and tempo. The joy that is created in the process of skateboarding is what keeps me enamoured with it. It teaches many valuable lessons related to perseverance, dedication, determination and patience. When I observe others discovering the passion of skateboarding which many of us share, it brings an added bonus to the lesson itself.
Over twenty years skateboarding. Participated in and filmed multiple video parts. Volunteered at skateboard shops and orchestrated skateboard demos and contests. Bachelors degree in Communication.

After speaking with the student and getting to know them and their guardian, I first show them the different parts of the skateboard, what they do and how to properly adjust them. I then go over safety and stretching. After that, I like to get an idea of their ability and gauge where they are in the process of learning how to skate. If they have any bad habits, with the way they push or control their board, I like to address those first. I show them how to stand on the board, how to jump off, what to do if they think they're going to fall and how to slow down and stop. Depending on what they can already do, I show them how to carve, tick tack, pivot and manual. Then we learn how to drop off a curb, how to turn around from the fakie position, how to skate down an incline, and how to kickturn on a ramp. After the third or fourth lesson, students learn how to drop in on transition and I start teaching them how to ollie. I can also teach more advance tricks if needed. These include, flip tricks, rotations, stalls, slides, grinds, airs and manuals. I also give the student techniques to practice and videos to watch at home at the end of each lesson.
