About Chelsea
I strive to make lessons stress-free, fun, and adaptive. My background as an actor and as a singer who works across multiple genres helps me tailor the lesson to your specific interests and goals.
I love seeing how singing brings joy, grounding, and inspiration to people's everyday lives, regardless of whether they are amateurs, professional performers, or simply want to sing for their own enjoyment. I get to meet all kinds of people and help them foster something unique within themselves.
While studying opera at the college and graduate level, I started offering lessons to friends and colleagues as a way to broaden my skills and earn some extra money. I soon found that teaching was a passion, and that connecting with students was every bit as rewarding to me as performing onstage. I sought out teaching artist opportunities everywhere I could find them, which led me to some wonderful experiences in East Africa, Central Florida, and Northern Sweden, to name a few! Today I continue to work with students in addition to singing and acting professionally.
I have a bachelors degree in vocal performance from The Juilliard School and a masters in opera performance from Mannes, The New School for Music. I have also studied vocal pedagogy through the Metropolitan Opera Guild and with master teacher Dr. Jean-Ronald LaFond in Härnösand, Sweden. I've been teaching lessons for nearly a decade, and have also taught in classroom and workshop settings all over the world!

A typical first lesson begins with talking about your experience, goals, and answering any questions you might have. I will then take you through a breath and vocal warm-up sequence and assess your vocal strengths and areas for improvement as I hear them. If there's time, we may work on a song or piece that you're already familiar with– I'll coach you and we'll start to integrate some of the techniques we've discussed in warm-ups. You are encouraged to audio record and take notes during your lesson!

Chelsea, apart from being a spectacular musician herself, is just one of *those* magical teachers who gets my (not uncomplicated) 11-year-old and meets them where they are but also knows where and how to push them for results. And as Chelsea is an open-minded person, so too is she an open-minded instructor, drawing on a freakily expansive knowledge base (I've known Chelsea for years; she just seems to know everything) to help find material and techniques suited to the student.
In short, you should really just employ her as a teacher if you are looking for your student to improve while also being taken care of and deeply heard in the process.Chelsea gave me personalized instruction to help meet my needs as a singer and had a clear plan for how to take my singing to the next level. I'm feeling more confident with every session. She helped me find songs from opera and musical theater that I actually enjoyed singing a lot and helped me with my own songs, too. Looking forward to my next lesson!
