About Gayssie
Hi! My name is Gayssie Lugo, I'm a mezzo-soprano based in Baltimore, MD and I love to teach singing and have been happily doing it for 7 years. My primary experience is teaching high school students transitioning to college for music, but I love working with students of all ages and backgrounds! My teaching is based in the classical music style however, I am happy to talk with you about your singing goals to see how I can help you. Below I've included a summary of my teaching philosophy as well as my education background.
Master of Music Performance and Pedagogy, Peabody Institute, Johns Hopkins University
Bachelor of Music Performance, University of Central Florida
My work in the studio focuses on breaking old habits that students may not realize is impeding their progress. I believe that teaching voice is not only about the instrument; there is more to a singer than solely vocal talent. It is imperative that
students have a vested interest in their personal development in addition to working on their vocal abilities. There is a big focus on body movement in my studio and I very strongly encourage a daily stretch or yoga practice. With the discovery of our body and the way it moves, there comes an acute awareness of how the vocal mechanism operates in tandem with the body to create an individual and unique sound.
