About Susan
I design and publish my own paper pieced patterns. They are original designs and are often 3D.
I have been designing and teaching for 20 years. My designs have been published in a couple of books and over a dozen magazines.
I love paper piecing and I really enjoy taking the mystery out of the technique.
I have taught classes in Pennsylvania as well as Ohio, New York and West Virginia.
I have a Facebook page for Larkspur Lane Designs as well as a private group called Friends of Larkspur Lane Designs. I am on Instagram as larkspurlanedesigns13
Once I learned how to quilt I started to design my own patterns. I was asked by the local shops to teach classes using my designs.
I have an associate degree in graphic art and I have been teaching paper piecing and beginning quiting for 20 years.

I prefer small class sizes so that I can give a lot of individual attention. My goal is to make sure that every student grasps the concept of paper piecing since it's not very intuitive in the beginning.
I have have worked with teenagers, complete beginners and experienced quilters as well as a few non English speakers and even a deaf person.
Find a teacher with lots of experience but also someone you have a rapport with. Also, find someone who is flexible. There are many different ways to make a quilt and we can always learn something new but we have to be open.
I recently taught a woman to paper piece over the phone. She sent me a message shortly afterwards to thank me and sent a picture via Facebook messenger so that I could see her finished project.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How much time, effort and money are they willing to spend on their new craft. Quilting is not an inexpensive hobby. They will need a basic sewing machine, fabric and some specific tools to be successful.

For me the most amazing thing about learning to quilt from Sue was the confidence she inspires. I didn't even realize I should be intimidated by Y-seams, partial seams, foundation paper piecing, etc. Sue's knowledge, patience and sense of humor are essential qualities for a teacher. Her quilt patterns are beautiful and fun. Her technique for positioning directional fabric is so much easier than other methods I have read about. The pattern directions are clear and easy to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her.
