Welcome to Learning to Read America.

Using Linguistic Literacy Strategies we see students progress in a matter of weeks.

We often see students reach grade level much faster than traditional school special education programs.

Twenty years ago, I a gifts survey I took showed that I had a talent for teaching. Five years later I had the opportunity to return to school and earn my teaching certificate from South Dakota State University. Since then I have been perusing the research that best informs my teaching strategies.

Several years ago, I was introduced to Evidence Based Literacy Instruction (EBLI) and in the spring of 2019 I earned my certification to teach EBLI. Since no school district in the region uses EBLI I set a goal to teach EBLI as an independent tutor. I believe EBLI can help every student become a better reader, speller, and writer.

About the lesson

I set the tone of our relationship by sharing about my professionsal life and a little bit about my personal life. I ask my clients about their goals for themselves. I ask that you spend time writting out the goals and setting a timeline to meet those goals. I ask for permision to contact their teachers to discover the student's demeanor in the classroom and what teachers see as strengthes and weakness of the student.

I have worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in many different settings. I currently teach at a local high school.
