About Erica

My teaching style has been adopted from my life experiences. I was classically trained as a child which has given me the foundation needed to branch out to different styles of music. I play and teach several instruments (Any wind instrument but unfortunately no stringed instruments other than piano) I have had the pleasure of performing at the Warwick Mall quite frequently for the past 10 years. I have performed songs of many different genres from Classical, Broadway, Jazz, Contempory, Pop, etc.... I'm also a Music/Pit Director for youth musical theater, a piano technician, and composer of music for movies and t.v.

I teach students how to read music, along with the foundations of music as we go. Music Theory is a language of its own. Once we understand what is being said, the easier it is to learn a song and eventually become self sufficient.

I initially attended RI College for music education then went on to earn a Professional accreditation from Berklee, the school of Music for Composition in film and t.v.

Music Magic RI has a Facebook page. Many of my students have posted performances of the songs they have learned there. Even though the majority of students are children, I teach people of all ages and have adult students as well.

I enjoy not being restricted to only one style of music. I listen to my students, and teach them the songs that they want to learn while building a bank of musical knowledge as we go. As previously stated, Music Theory is important to know because it is the language of music. Once you understand what is being said in a sheet of music, the easier it is to figure things out on your own.

I have been formally trained since the age of 5.  As a child I was very competitive, and participated and won many piano competitions. 
I have since attended RI College for music education then Berklee school of music for  professional accreditation in composition for film and t.v.  I will be earning Berklee's Master accreditation before the years end.

I want my students to be relaxed around me. I dress casually in order to be seen as a person and not a suit. I like to see what musical knowledge a new student may or may not have, then take it from there. 
Every person has a different personality and learning curve so I never approach lesson plans the same way for every student. What works for one person may or may not work for another, so basically there's a lot of trial and error (in my experience, this works very well).
