About Alexandra
I teach music to students of all age in order to enhance the student's appreciation of music and love/interest in their instruments. I believe music should be fun and not just a chore. Yes, there is homework, but the homework should be rewarding most of the time. I teach beginning to intermediate piano, all levels of harp, and all levels of theory and chamber music. My students are attending or have attended many of the Ivy Leagues and major conservatories throughout the world. My goal is to teach them music to a high level while allowing them to keep their musical voice. Each one of my students will play a piece with their own interpretation and musicality and there is no box which they must remain in. Some students will go on to play pop music and some will play in major orchestras. Some will play only to their favorite classical piece such as Fur Elise or Canon in D, while others will keep pushing themselves to learn the hardest repertoire available and will go on to compete in International Competitions. Each person's musical experience and drive is different and that is important while teaching.
I have been teaching for twenty years through my studios in Chicago, Los Angeles, Anaheim, and the Bay Area. I teach both in person (Gilroy, Cupertino, San Mateo and Foster City) and online.
I received my Bachelor's degree from DePauw University in Anthropology and Music with a minor in Chemistry, my Master's degree in Orchestral Studies (Performance) at Chicago College of Performing Arts (Roosevelt University), and I did Post Graduate work at the University of Southern California.

I LOVE to share music with others. I love seeing students realize they can do something they didn't know they could and wouldn't have even considered possible. I use analogies from sports, education, history, and music to help students grasp ideas better, and these moments are fun for me and the student.

Alexandra’s guidance has advanced my harp studies beyond my goal expectations.
I appreciate that she customizes my instruction with tools for building technique and musicality that work for me – not a “cookie-cutter” approach. Working on compositions as study pieces keeps learning interesting while continuing to build skills and technique. I am encouraged to “find my own voice” with the harp. I am not just becoming a harpist, but a musician. I love my learning and look forward to my lessons.
Alex is a wonderful teacher -- patient, kind, and always willing to help! She has always believed in me and motivated me to do my best.
Alex has been my harp teacher for a few years and has helped me grow as a harpist very quickly. I sought her out originally because I was looking for someone who was very particular about technique and knowing the best ways to practice. Someone who has the experience as a performer and as a teacher to be able to know what's necessary to become a good player, and be able to communicate and teach those skills. I'm an adult student and I had only been playing for a year before I met her and she started me off with some really tough pieces. We worked through small sections at a time and turned some really awesome sounding music into things I could treat as etudes and exercises. It made practicing fun because it wasn't just basic sounding stuff. It was something I could practice as a drill, and by the end I could play something really challenging and complex that's fun to hear coming from my own hands. I took in-person private lessons from her in the Bay Area but I've since moved out of state and now I take remote lessons over Skype. I'm very hard on myself and she's very supportive and encouraging, which helps me keep going and keep practicing. Alex has helped me become fearless as to what I can accomplish in a short period of time. I still have a ways to go, but I can see improvement in my playing on a weekly basis with her guidance. Alex is the best!
Teacher Alex is the best music teacher I've ever seen, not only her exceptional teaching skill, techniques, knowledge, but also her extremely patience to kids. My son is with Alex for 4 years and he loves her and consider her as his another mother, Mrs Alex consistently encourages him and build up his confidence as he is very sensitive and shy kid. Now my daughter is also learning the harp with her and willing to make commitment to achieve high standard that Mrs Alex always teach.
If someone asked me what would make this teacher better, I would be like: N-O-T-H-I-N-G. She somehow was able to be really fun and teach me advanced harp. As long as you are determined, she's an awesome teacher so yeah, I'm happy to give her five stars!
Alex is not just an experienced teacher - she's a friend, a mentor, a college counselor and a part of the family. She genuinely cares about the student's future.
Alexandra is the best teacher ever. She really knows everything you need and adapts to each student. Plus, she is a terrific person as well. Highly recommend.
