I was a student with Ms. Renee Yerger for 10 years and learned a lot more than just music! Each lesson was individually crafted for me, and always began with a prayer. This helped me focus on the lesson on-hand and influenced my own faith life. I worked my way up from simple scales to sonatas with her extensive musical knowledge and professional experience guiding me each step of the way. Participating in recitals, piano festivals, and playing at nursing homes are some of my favorite memories which have helped me overcome my shyness. She rewards her younger students with “Composer Bucks” which they can redeem in her personal store for different toys, arts and crafts, and a myriad of other items. It taught little third grade me how to choose whether to save up my Bucks for that fancy necklace or trade them in now for a less expensive prize. As I got older, I did not practice for the cash incentive anymore, but because Ms. Yerger made learning enjoyable, my motivation to practice came internally instead of externally.

Everyday I am thankful for my years of lessons that have given me self-confidence and skills to show off. I have written and performed three original pieces for the piano, music that I never would have composed if it wasn’t for her endless encouragement. It’s an amazing privilege to be able to sight-read sheet music or improvise when I’m in a creative mood. I wouldn’t trade my years with Ms. Renee Yerger for anything; if you are looking for a passionate, caring, intelligent, talented teacher who goes above and beyond the call of a teacher to help her students, you are looking at the right person.

Renée is a great teacher. She has been great at teaching me from ground zero. She’s very knowledgeable at the theory, and she is great at finding compositions that I want to play but also challenge my skill level. I would’ve never expected I’d be playing Bach and Haydn pieces after a year.

I started to take piano lessons with Renee when I was 64 years old. Initially I just wanted to learn how to read music and play simple tunes. I also wanted to challenge my brain by learning something new in my sixties. I am now 71 years old and Renée continues to inspire me. I have composed music, learned classical and contemporary pieces and have benefited immeasurably from my contact with such an outstanding human.
