About Avery
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music from City University of New York Brooklyn College.
I have 20 years of playing experience and 5 years of teaching experience from teaching choirs to teaching piano technique.
I took lessons with 3-time grammy award-winning Arturo O' Farill.
I'm a young guy who works well with people of all ages and I can't wait to share the knowledge of music with you or your child!
The joy of seeing growth! Seeing people who didn't know one scale playing a Beethoven piece in 3 months.
And most importantly seeing people joyous over accomplishing their own personal goals. I'm on your team!

First, I like to find out about your interests. Maybe your child has a T.V. show they like and they would like to learn the theme song or maybe you or your child has a favorite artist and you would like to learn a song from their catalog. When I understand my student's interests and personalities, it makes it an enjoyable experience for everyone.
After getting to know you I little I began to see what you already know about music. Do you know pitches? How good are you with rhythms? Do you happen to have perfect pitch but you haven't discovered it yet?
Finally, I like to observe your learning methods. Some people are visuals learnings, while some are auditory. Most people are right-handed while some are left-handed (which is VERY important to know in the beginning). I make sure to provide a lesson experience that is custom-tailored to the student.

He was very helpful, patient and adaptive to learning styles. I’m a very visual learner and at a point I was having difficulties understanding the 1 through 7 number system for the keys and he drew it out for me on paper to enhance understanding. I highly recommend Avery’s lessons if you’re looking for a patient and adaptive teacher.
Avery James is a very patient teacher. He was able to thoroughly explain not only the song I was working on, but the music theory behind it as well.
Avery is one of the best teachers I ever had & he is great at providing support & encouragement when you have self doubt. Also his patience is much appreciated. He helped me achieve an A in my keyboard class & he’s great at what he does.
