About Olivia
I have been a mentor, academic coach, and piano teacher for many years. My goal for all of my students is to gain not only a deep understanding of the material we cover together, but to develop a great love for learning.
I graduated magna cum laude from Chapman University in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and minor in Political Science. During my time there, I started a mentoring program for students ages 11-18 who aspire to be the first in their family to attend college. I have expensive experience working with students in a wide array of subjects including:
- Writing & Reading Comprehension
- Mathematics (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics)
- High School Biology and Chemistry
- Music Theory
I am open to tutor any age or skill level. For college-level students, I am open to provide edits on papers- particularly those focusing on subjects in the humanities. I have two published articles and was named a winner in the Global Undergraduate Awards program for my work.
If you need help in more than one subject, I welcome the opportunity to customize a tutoring schedule to fit your needs. As a tutor, I am extremely organized and detail oriented. I strive to go above and beyond in everything I do. In my free time, I research the latest learning techniques and strategies to to provide you with the most customized experience possible. I also enjoy reading books on neuroscience to gain a better understanding on how the brain learns best.
My favorite part of my job is seeing the moment when a certain concept "clicks" for the student or when they remark on how the subject has now become "easy."
I will not give up on a student until they are able to walk away feeling confident. I appreciate the opportunity to explain concepts in multiple ways.
I started in high school as a volunteer math tutor at an elementary school. Because of that experience, I was inspired to research more into educational inequities in the school system of the United States. I wrote about this topic in the UCLA Undergraduate Law Journal.

During the first session, I like to use a variation of the S.M.A.R.T goals method to assess where the student needs help and create an action plan to fill those needs.
- Elementary through college
I think it is important for you to consider personality. A bubbly, energetic tutor will make all the difference after a long day of school to keep you motivated and positive about the work ahead of you.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask them if they are familiar with the concept of a growth mindset. Some tutors will mistakenly believe that intelligence is fixed, but science has proven that this is not the case. The more you challenge yourself, the more your brain will grow. It is important to be coached by someone who understands this and encourages you when you struggle.

She was very patient and focused on all the most important details of every piece we worked on. She helped improve my overall techniques and showed me songs that could assist in doing so.
Olivia was extremely helpful and provides thorough guidance. She provided detailed explanations for all of my questions and examples to help demonstrate the concepts.
