About Scott
I am very responsive to my students, and teach in an easy to understand style that speaks in everyday language, not technical jargon. I am patient, understanding, and most of all, teach my students to have fun and not be afraid to try new things. I also provide handouts that can be used when we are not in a face to face situation, as well as available by cell if questions arise.
I love photography, and in teaching, my greatest joy is to watch my students evolve. I get the biggest return from teaching seeing the "aha" moments in the learning process. I also enjoy watching my students become confident in their skill level, letting go of the fears around using their cameras, composition, and trying new things in this amazing hobby.
I have been shooting for over 30 years, and although I am self taught, I have been to numerous workshops, conferences, and photo trips. I constantly sharpen my photography skills through continual workshops and education. I have also been in numerous art shows, competitions, and corporate showings, and work closely with ArtsKC.

I like to initially meet with a new student to go over what they know and don't know, what their objectives are, and go over some basics about photography as well as their own camera. From this initial conversation, we will shoot on that first day. The initial lesson is usually 1-1.5 hours. I try to meet at a convenient coffee shop to go over the above, and then proceed to put our "theory" to practice.
