About Gloria
MBA graduate, with over 10 years of governmental accounting background.
Started out college with the goal of becoming a teacher, took every math course available. From beginning algebra to Calculus 2. Have knowledge in many other areas, such as chemistry, physiscs, accounting, statistics, list goes on.
I worked for Antelope Valley High School as an Avid tutor when I graduated college. I was an Avid tutor for two years, tutoring college bound students in every subject. I enjoyed being able to help students and build bonds with them. They identified with me and saw me as a role model since I was attending college at the same time I was hired.
After tutoring at the high school for two school years I got a job as an Instructional Aide for Garden Grove Unified. There I was a bilingual aide for grades 1-6. I assisted different cultural backgrounds and worked primarily with student's who were learning English as a second language.
Currently I work for a government agency. My main role is to review cases for staff and ensure they are following regulations. I hold training seminars for staff, serve as a resource for them to assist when they have technial questions.
I have children of my own who I help daily wit their assignements, I also volunteer at ther school on my days off from work (pre-covid). I enjoy teaching, it brings me joy when I am able to see a young face light up when they finally understamd a concept they had been struggling on.
When I graduated high school I was approached by a few of my AP teachers. Asking me to become a tutor for a newly launched program back in 2001. It is now a widely known program- AVID. I accepted and got the training needed at the University of Northridge. I decided I wanted to teach and took all of my required undergrad courses for it. However in my Junior year of college I took an accounting class, and I fell in love. I changed my major to Business Administration and pursued a career within that field.
Teaching however has always been a passion of mine. Even in my current position with my agency I am now the head of my department in charge of all training of new hires and also training for current employees in the areas I see they need further training.
I enjoy teaching people, I enjoy being able to share my knowledge and feel I make a difference.
I am a holder of an MBA with an emphasis in Finance. My undergraduate has an emphasis in Accounting. As you can gather my strength has always been numbers, math, putting a puzzle together.
I recently obtained my substitute credential, I have taken the C-BEST test and passed.
I currently do not have a contract to substitue with any district, but I do volunteer from time to time at the local elementray schools.
I have received many training courses through my employer for public speaking mentoring, and training of new hires. I have a way of teaching someone a new skill.

I typically address their strengths first. What are they good at, memorization, visualizing, drawing it out? Then I adress the area they struggle. Are they struggling becasue they don't understand the concept, a certain step, or they need a stronger foundation?
I have worked with every age group, I have had the opportunity to teach different economic and social cultural groups.
I have worked for elemenatry schools as an employee and also as a volunteer. I have worked with high school aged groups, and currently work with professional adults.
Be able to connect with the teacher, feel comfortable enough to share your weaknesses when it comes to the subject matter. Be able to communicate what you expect to gain from the tutoring sessions.

Details
I do not have a standard pricing system yet, I am failry new to this. I am hoping I can build a customer base first. I don't belive in outrageous prices, I was a student once and I know how hard it is to pay expenses and still afford a good tutor. Pricing is negotiable,
