About Catherine
Hi.
My name is Catherine Elias. I would be delighted to help your child excel in math. I have been tutoring for over ten years, during which I have tutored elementary school through high school math courses including general math, accelerated math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, PreCalculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, IB Math, and AP Statistics.

I have a BS and a MS degree in engineering, from Washington University in St. Louis, so I have had extensive training in Math and Science. While in graduate school, I taught several undergraduate courses and tutored students one-on-one.

I work well with students and parents alike and I love seeing kids understand the material, improve grades, and have a good time learning. Parents have told me often how well their children are learning their particular subject because of my expertise and personal interaction. I have a great rapport with students and parents alike. Many of my students I have had for years, starting in middle school and moving right through high school.

Online tutoring is an effective one-on-one tutoring experience. I have been using Zoom for years, because it makes the experience quite personal and very effective. It also gives you the most flexibility in managing your time. I have tutored most of my students online for years.

In addition to the weekly sessions, I provide help (via texting and photos of problems) when the student is stuck on a homework problem during the week between sessions. During the school year, I keep open time slots later in the evening on most days for extra tutoring sessions when needed in preparation for a test or quiz.

I started teaching computer science at the college level when I was in graduate school. I tutored students at that time as well. I homeschooled my own children while they were in middle school. I started tutoring middle school and high school students in math and science while working full time as an engineer at AT&T. I am now semi-retired — I just love tutoring kids.

It is a delight for me to be working with kids at any stage of their curriculum.
I have direct communication with most students, dependent on parents' preferences. I love when students or parents text me when they do well on a test or quiz, and often events not related to math. I believe that there is more to being tutored than just the lesson. I value my relationships with parents and students.
I’ve tutored all age groups from elementary school into college. I have tutored for over ten years. I love seeing kids understand the material, improve grades, and have a good time learning. Yosef YigzawPerfect! Catherine was superb to work with. She worked with my high school senior tutoring in AP Calculus AB. He started weak after spending a year and a half on line and she quickly helped him bring a starting D up to an A/B (he gets some As and some Bs and *might* finish the year with an A.) She was well prepared, worked with him to prioritize homework and exams, and was flexible to scheduling constraints. I cannot speak more highly of Catherine who is not only excellent at what she does, but is also a truly kind and good person.

She worked with both of my daughters in all levels of math and some science from middle school math levels to college level calculus and statistics. Very kind and accommodating and taught the material in ways that resonated with my daughters and resulted in improved understanding and performance. She is flexible and accessible and willing to help outside of scheduled hours when necessary. Highly recommend!
Catherine is caring and knowledgeable. She explains the material in a digestible way. My daughters confidence in math has increased tremendously. Catherine provides notes at the end of every session. She is a consummate professional who happens to be reasonably priced!
