About Rachel
I became a California credentialed math teacher directly after college. I taught 8th grade, Algebra 1, remedial Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 honors for 9 years. I earned my Masters in Teaching from UCI. Born and raised in the Bay Area, of course I came back to my roots to teach. I'm a very involved teacher and tutor by giving students a general overview of how the lesson fits in the bigger picture, what previous knowledge is needed, and introduce advance concepts by building on the fundamentals. My goal for my students is simple: Growth.
It's important to identify the areas of growth for the student. I've tutored students one-on-one for SAT prep and ran my school's Algebra 1 bi-weekly afterschool tutoring center for several years.
I became the yearbook teacher at my school four years ago because I loved getting to know the student culture and broaden my outlook not just to my students, but to high school education as a whole. I really wanted all students to have equal representation in the school yearbook and I enjoy knowing I'm doing the same supporting my math students at all levels.
I have a Masters Degree in Teaching from UC Irvine (yes, a degree in how to teach/how one learns). Even though I've gravitated to younger students, I am authorized to teach AP Statistics and AP Calculus as well. I have worked with students for 11 years, 9 years as a credentialed public school teacher.

I want to know where they are at and what is their learning goal. I like to give them the bigger picture of what they're learning about because math is one giant organized web. However, I want them to recognize whether the main focus is knowledge based, skills based, or application based.

her teaching style and her patience
She was tolerant and gave excellent tips to help understand hard to grasp concepts. She also made sure you knew what was going on and made sure you wouldn't fall behind.
She was kind and always super helpful when teaching. She would also provide helpful sources such as other students to get us to ask for help.
I’ve known and studied under Ms. Perkins for two years now and she is a great teacher! She takes the time to understand her students, match their pace, and provide extra help/resources for them. Ms. Perkins explains each concept thoroughly and in a way that is easy to understand. I really enjoyed learning from her!
I liked how hands on and in depth she was with her teaching. If you didn’t understand she would help you every step of the way and it really improved my grade. She has a great attitude and is very positive. She is probably one of the best math teacher I have ever had.
