About Ariel
At Relational Learning Academy we believe that every student has the potential to learn and thrive with the right support, structure, and goals. We believe that learning does not occur in a bubble. Academic success is an inherently interactive and social process, where relationships with teachers, tutors, fellow students, the academic subject, and learning itself are keys to achievement. If a student feels disconnected from the relational aspect of learning, it can drastically impact their self-confidence, motivation, and the ability to realize their potential.
Relational Learning Academy provides mentorship on an individual level, giving academic, social, and personal support in each student’s learning journey. We build a student's ability to succeed by mentoring them in mastering the subject, becoming self-learners, exploring their strengths and weaknesses, and by expressing their interests and needs, skills that will last a lifetime. I love working with students one on one and in group settings. I love problem solving with students, exploring what difficulties they are experiencing and working through those things together to achieve their goals. It brings me great joy to start with a student who is having difficulty in a subject, is feeling discouraged, and see them grow and develop through working with me.
My passion for teaching and tutoring started when I was in college working for a non profit after-school program educating and tutoring elementary and middle school students. When I graduated from college I moved to Chicago and worked at a charter high school in a college readiness program, developing educational curriculum, facilitating and conducting outreaches across the city with students, as well as working one on one with students to get into the top colleges and universities across the country. I moved back to New York and worked at the Stanley Issacs Center as an Academic Specialist while conducting private tutoring as well. Right now I committed to privately tutoring students across the United States.
My name is Ariel Hayat and I have been a professional tutor and educator for over 8 years. I graduated from Mount Holyoke College, with a Magna Cum Laude distinction in the Africana Studies Department. I have held the titles of Academic Specialist, Scholar Coach, and Youth Counselor across New York, Chicago, and Massachusetts. My commitment to holistic education goes beyond basic academic achievement.
I have extensive experience in educational programing, classroom teaching, individualized tutoring, the college application process, and SAT/ACT prep. I work with students from kindergarten through 12th grade, teaching the Common Core Curriculum, prepping for state examinations, as well as classroom tests, quizzes, and basic homework help.I work individually and in group settings with students to build a strong foundation of academic excellence by utilizing social emotional learning techniques, executive function skills, and understanding student’s individual relationship with school and learning.
My approach is directly informed by years of experience in education and my current master’s training as a second year Social Worker student at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City. My current background in social work and education gives me a unique lens into student experience, especially during the challenging times we are facing during COVID-19.

I believe that all students have the ability to thrive and achieve in an educational setting and in life. I work individually and in group settings with students, tailoring my practices to their needs for over 8 years.
If a student has resistance to school in general or an academic subject, I want to know why. What story does the student have about that subject? Why do they believe they are not a good writer or are bad a math? Working with students to undo negative beliefs about themselves is the first step in learning. From there I evaluate the student and their current academic standing and knowledge of the subject, filling in the gaps and work towards excellence. I want to know what excites my students and highlight their achievements.
I have worked with a wide range of students with different goals for their learning and education. Some students have difficulty focusing in class or have a negative relationship with a certain subject that is prohibiting them from realizing their goals. Others seem to have a consistant writer's block and cannot find the motivation to dedicate themselves to their school work. And there are other students who are excelling at school and want additional support to help push them to the next level of learning.
Many students have not performed their best on state exams and other standardized tests. I offer test prep for a variety of standardized tests where students will see results in increased scores.
Reach out to that teacher. Ask what their teaching philosophy is. Ask if they are able to help support you in the subject that you are having difficulty with. Then take that first step and see if that teacher can help support you reach your goals.
I was recently working with a student who did poorly on her first attempt at the ACTs. She seemed disinterested and frustrated with having to take the exam in the first place and was finding it difficult to motivate herself to study. We spoke about her associations and feelings with taking the ACT, what her larger worries and concerns were. From there we worked together, breaking down each ACT section where she knew what to expect, mastered her time management skills, and learned the necessary content to increase her score despite the testing site being noisy.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Again, ask teachers about their philosophy of teaching. Ask what supports and resources they can use with you to help support your goals. Ask how many years of experience they have.

I use a sliding scale for all of my students. My sliding scale starts at $30.00 for half an hour and $50.00 for an hour.
