About Kate
Hello, I am not offering tutoring services this semester. Thank you for your understanding as I focus on classes and career opportunities.
Though I don't offer tutoring in it today I got into teaching by volunteering at my kung fu school growing up, showing younger students forms and helping pre-k students learn basic skills.
I began tutoring academic subjects in high school through National Honor Society, and then worked at Mathnasium as a part-time job.
I enjoy teaching and continue to pursue tutoring over other part-time job opportunities because I love watching as a student's understanding of a subject or topic evolves. It's rewarding to see a student work to progressively build skills and have those 'ah-hah!' moments.
I am currently a Finance and Spanish double major and Math minor at Southern Methodist University.
I graduated in the top 2% of my high school class, completing 35 hours of AP and IB coursework before starting college. My senior year of high school I was a tutor at Mathnasium where I learned how to work with children in grades k-12 on many different math topics. I have advanced proficiency in Spanish as well as practice tutoring in the subject through the National Spanish Honor Society in high school. I received 5s on both the AP Spanish Language and AP BC Calculus exams.

I like to spend the first session learning what the student's attitude is toward the subject and what approaches they have taken to learn the subject so far. If a student is only struggling with a specific topic we might go back and see if there are underlying foundational issues that are making this new topic difficult. If a student generally needs extra help in a subject they aren't confident in, I base study sessions on what questions arise after they have attempted any homework assignments on their own. From there we can work on the types of problems the student struggles with as well as additional practice, trying different learning methods until the student feels confident in their ability to learn new concepts.
