About Valori
My name is Valori C. I live in the great state of Texas. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and I am also a certified teacher. I have taught in the public school system, in different positions, for more than 10 years. I am currently an ESL teacher with VIPKid since December 2019 where I teach Chinese children English online.
I look for the 'Ah Ha' moments and build a connection with the student first. A student that has a great relationship with their teacher will feel more confident and will learn at a great capacity.
If they are younger students, I use extrinsic rewards to encourage them in the learning process (older students might like these rewards too and I adjust accordingly).
I believe in using props, videos, TPR (total physical response) anything that will help the material "stick".
Working with others to see them succeed is what I enjoy doing the most.
I began as a substitute teacher and my caught a love for teaching students.
Before and during my teaching career, I worked closely with the children, youth, and young adults of our church.
I am a certified teacher in Early childhood to 6th grade. I have work with middle school and high school students in San Antonio, Texas in the public school system.
I am trained to work with special education students. I have 5 years plus of experience working with special needs students with behavior disabilites.
I am certified in teaching English as a second language through TESOL.

Building rapport with the student is critical. I get to know their interests or hobbies as this may come in handy later when teaching the lesson and relating it to the student.
I expect that students to have reviewed what they are working on and bring the questions.
If at all possible, I recommend the student email or text any questions or the topic ahead of time. This will make better use of the time I have with the student and will allow me to prepare props or videos ect.

During my 5th grade year of teaching, I was able to acquire the respect of a young student who was known to be a major behavior student. I remained consistent, kind, and calm, and in two months we build a solid relationship. She would always hug me everytime I would see her. She is a special young lady.
