About Alyssa
I love math and helping young children learn to love it, as well. I develop lesson plans with the intention of keeping kids engaged and wanting to learn more. I have not been tutoring officially for very long, however, I have worked with young children for over five years. During this time I have helped many young children with their schoolwork. For several years I have been working with grades K-5 in a theatre program called Stagecrafters Community Theatre, in addition to babysitting.
When I was in fourth grade I used to spend time with babies and pre-schoolers. I found that I loved to work with younger children and as I've grown older I have found the same passion in taking care of slightly older kids. I love feeling like I am contributing to a child's future and passion for learning. I hope to become a teacher after I finish my education and I would love to gain more experience through tutoring. My passion for learning began with several incredible influences that I had when I was younger. It would be amazing to be one of those people in another child's life.
I have been working with children for over five years. I have volunteered at daycares to play with children and help them do their assignments. I have also worked in theatre programs with kids where I also helped them do homework and get to know their personalities and interests. Through these programs, along with babysitting and Girl Scout programs I have participated in, I have found that I am able to develop great relationships with children whose ages range from kindergarten to fifth grade.

First, I like to have a discussion with their parents about what they're hoping to get out of tutoring. After making a lesson plan based on the parent's goals, I will see the students' reaction to the activities and get to know their interests. The more I get to know a child, the more productive and personalized their lessons will be. Common first session activities include Kahoots (fun game quizzes), engaging presentations, or reviewing homework. The content will vary depending on the age of the child.
Generally, I work with kids whose ages range from kindergarten to fifth grade. I have a small amount of experience with neurodivergent children, but not very much. I work equally as well with all genders and backgrounds.
The most important thing is to make sure that your child and their tutor are a good match. If their personalities aren't a good fit, there will not be as much learning occurring as there could be. I recommend emailing the tutor with any additional questions you or your child may have to find a good fit.
Last year I worked with second and third graders in a class for building confidence and acting skills. I enjoyed these classes very much, as they gave me a chance to work with younger children and help teach them important life skills. I was able to build really strong connections with each kid in the class; it was a wonderful experience.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students and parents need to have a discussion about what level of learning they're at and what they need the most help with. It is also very helpful for a tutor to know what type of learner a child is. If a child is able to think of certain activities they enjoy in school or understand more, it would be a great resource for a teacher to have to better their material.

My pricing system for lessons is very flexible. My main focus is more on making sure the child is understanding the content and less on how much I am making. My prices tend to range from $5-10 per hour, depending on what the parent is able and willing to pay. If over time a parent decides that they would prefer for me to pay more or less than the current amount, I am always open to feedback and would love to adjust costs to their needs.
