About Dawn

I offer highly individualized, specialized mathematics education and academic coaching. I bring 31 years of math education experience, along with a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and Master's Degree in Women’s Studies. I maintain my Virginia teacher certification in mathematics grades 6-12 and gifted education. I’m also an Pre-AP National Faculty Consultant and continue to serve that community through teacher training.
My mission is to expand the radius of a students' life and to improve her or his experience in mathematics. I’m especially committed to shifting mathematical mindsets to keep students in the mathematics pipeline, and eliminating limiting beliefs around doing math. I also hope to add value to a student's life by knowing she or he leaves each session feeling more empowered and confident in her or his own ability to do and learn math. I especially value the long term relationships with students that often last for years.
I offer tutoring in all math courses through Calculus 2 and SAT/ACT/GRE test prep.
I enjoy expanding the radius of students' lives, giving the more options in life by staying in the mathematics pipeline, and the long term relationships I create with students.
My first entry into mathematics education was in Tampa Florida at the age of 20.
I bring over 31 years of math education experience to my coaching practice. In additional to highly specialized mathematics education academic coaching, I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and a Master's Degree in Women’s Studies. My coaching practice includes:
Mathematics education for students who wish to take math courses online (BYU high school courses) and work directly with me as their primary math teacher. This option is a great resource for students who wish to take algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, or calculus and receive credit but bypass the traditional seat time and classroom. This option works well if a student wishes to do additional math courses over the summer or year. I’ve been offering that service for many years and numerous students find that is a game changer for them if the traditional classroom is not a good fit.
Academic coaching services helping students with organizational skills, time management skills, along with strategies for priority setting.

I meet with each student to discuss her or his goals and intentions of the tutoring process. We discuss strategies and action steps to achieve those goals. We also discuss timing and pacing of the program to meet each students' needs and goals.
I work with all levels of students from middle school students to college level students. I also work with adults who need tutoring for the math portion of the GRE.

When a student I work with increases their confidence in mathematics to take a math course he or she would never thought possible.

Details
Effective September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020, my hourly rate for my current weekly mathematics tutoring clients will be $100 per hour.
My hourly rate for test preparation such as SAT/ACT/GRE will continue to be $150 per hour. If you are an ongoing weekly client, test preparation will be offered at $100 per hour, the same weekly mathematics subject tutoring rate.
In addition, my group rates for sessions with 2, 3, and 4 students (will continue to be at same rate as in the past??)
2 students: $150 per hour total
3 students: $210 per hour total
4 students: $260 per hour total
