About Anne Marie
I am both a violin and viola teacher. I also teach English and other academics and have been teaching for more than 25 years. I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Music Performance as well as a Masters degree in Education. I am passionate about teaching and I try to make learning both easy and fun, meeting the students where they are and adapting my teching style to their individual aptitude and learning style.
First and foremost I enjoy meeting and working with new students, making new connections, and being a positive role model. I enjoy enlightening, informing, instructing, counseling and introducing students to something new and something wonderful that will lead to personal growth and enhance their lives.
I originally started teaching, right out of college, to supplement my performance career. Then I developed a passion for it because of my interest in young people and the love and aptitude I discovered I had for teaching. I originally began teaching only music, then later computers. Then later still, as I saw the need, I began teaching English (writing, grammar, ESL, etc.) and beginning Italian. I do College Counseling for high school students as well.
A Masters Degree in Music Performance and a Masters degree in Eductation as well as more than 25 years of teaching both privately and in various schools and educational programs, from elemntary to college.

I have an introductory lesson to get to know the student, their music (or academic) background and previous experience. I also do diagnostic work initially to test their aptitude as well as their understanding of the basics.
Then we begin step by step instruction, with lessons customized to the students learning style at a rate that is not overwhelming. Eventually we get to a book, educational materials or handouts once the basic rudiments are mastered. Homework is usually given from the beginning to reinforce the lessons.
I have worked with all types of students, meaning all ages, all ethnicities, and a myriad of different levels of aptitude and talent. I have worked in the school system, and in private music schools/programs, as well as privately in my own studio. I have taught in a K-8 program, and in programs that accepted elementary through high schools. I also teach on the college level and have had many adult students. I have taught students with serious goals like test prep, college entrance, job qualification, etc or who were just interested in personal growth and self improvement.
Simply to know what you want and what you are looking for. Consider several candidates, not just 1 and make sure you find a good fit for you. Also, if you cannot get a full picture from the teacher's profile, don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you want to make sure you have the right person.

The rates are based on time and subject. Lessons are usually an hour in length. Music lessons are usually more than academic lessons. So it depends, but lessons can range anywhere from $35-$55 per lesson and are usually weekly. Depending on the subject, lessons can be bi-weekly.
