About Mike
1. Communication is the key to understanding. I know that complex things are difficult to learn without common ground, so I will take the time to learn how best to communicate with YOU.
2. Tutoring is about building understanding, not solving problems for you. You will have to solve the problems yourself, but my tutoring will help you build the understanding needed to do just that.
I have earned several awards for teaching and building outcomes for students. A complete list can be found on this profile page: (concealed information)

I love seeing (or hearing) the light bulb come on when understanding hits you! It's the best feeling in the world to help someone understand a complex system or solution, just by leading and guiding the thought process.
I started higher education a little later in life than some, and when I went from course to course learning all that I learned, I felt that helping others to achieve the same would be the best job in the world. I was right! Since I started teaching at the University level, I've never considered doing anything else.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, which is basically computer programming. I was trained formally in COBOL and C, C++, and Visual Basic. Since then I have learned many more languages and I have developed countless web solutions and apps for public consumption. I understand the process of Software development for the Web, and for portable devices.
I also hold a Master's degree in Information Systems Management, so I understand project management, resource allocation, risk assessment, and many other business concepts that can relate to computer systems.
I spent the majority of my professional life teaching and developing courses for college undergraduates to learn software development for Internet consumption. I frequently take courses myself to ensure I am current in my chosen field, so I am familiar with being a student and a perpetual learner!

We'll have a short conversation about the course, the level, and the potential problem, then I will examine/discuss the problem with you. I may ask about hobbies, or interests that you have, so that I can build an analogy you will relate to. This is not always necessary, but sometimes it helps. Then I will walk you through the problem, and help you discover the route to the solution. When you can relate to me that you've gained the understanding you need to continue, we can move on to the next level.
Most of my students have been over the age of 16, with solid career goals and a strong desire to complete coursework. I have worked with visually impaired students, and students with physical handicaps.
It takes a lot of patience on both parts. You have to work at getting a positive dialog going, and you have to be honest enough to say you need more work. Look for someone who has the time to walk you through concepts and who will help you apply the concepts to the problem you are facing.
Many of my former students are associated with me on Facebook. I only allow this after we are past our classroom relationship. But almost all of the people that I have worked with as students have positive things to say about my teaching, and welcome me as an associate! What a great feeling!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It pays to do a simple self-check, an honest evaluation of your efforts:
1. Have I read all the material related to the lesson?
2. Have I researched the lesson online?
3. Have I completed all previous lessons that lead up to this one?
If you can answer yes to those questions, you are likely ready to hire a tutor to help you.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
He has extensive knowledge of many languages. He knows how to explain difficult subjects to make them understandable. I would highly recommend.
Prof. Martin is an awesome teacher. He showed examples, reviewed your work and gave specific feedback to help you improve. Even though my classes were online, we still had a great one on one relationship that was conducive to learning. He is hands down the BEST college Professor I had through out my Associate's and Bachelor's degrees. He even helped me out after I was no longer his student.
