About Zaara

Although my work is vigorous, I try to make patience the most important value while teaching. I understand that every child is different and I try my best to accommodate to their needs. I want to be able to create a safe environment with the student, so that they feel comfortable with sharing any questions or concerns they have.

I feel excited when children start to recognize the lessons they are taught in school. Many students need additional help, when it comes to their studies, that some teachers cannot provide. I am an older sister to two young siblings and I know what children need to finally understand a concept they used to stuggle with. I am currently a high school student and have gotten all A's since the fourth grade.

Being a high school student, I understand what it is like to struggle with different concepts. My younger brother has a speech impediment which restricts him from being able to communicate properly. At just the age of 4 years old (Pre-K), I was able to teach him how to multiply, divide, add/subtract three-digit numbers, and even square numbers (a concept I learned in 6th grade).

I review the material they need help with. If it is for homework, I ask them what they know and see their abilities. Then, I guide them through what they don't know and provide additional material to ensure that they remember that concept. If it is for a new math concept that I need to teach them, I will give an overview of the lesson and then provide examples that we can work through together. Once they start catching up, I will give them examples to work on their own and summarize everything by the end.

I have taught one of my mother's friend's son how to write the English alphabet and sound out the letters in just 2 weeks (for reference, he is from Mexico). He often through tantrums and would continue to interrupt the lesson (as expected from little kids), but we still managed to get through the lessons together.

I would advise them to start every lesson motivated and ready to learn. The most important factor when teaching a student is the student's ability to retain the information and their willpower. If they doubt themselves, they will not be able to reach full potential.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before talking to teachers about their needs, students should ask themselves what part of the topic is confusing them. They should then let the teacher know about the specifics so that the teacher is aware of what they should focus on.

I normally work from $20-25 per hour according to the schedule. For example, I may work for 2 hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for $20/hour. Or I may work for $25/hour every weekday. I am flexible with people's schedules according to which days, but can only work after 3:00pm and before 6:00pm (except for Tuesdays, where I can only work 4pm-6pm). I do not work on the weekend (Saturdays and Sundays).
