Over 25 years teaching guitar informs my teaching. Students receive a solid foundation in music and are shown a proven path for continual improvement. Your Input is essential and ultimately will guide the lessons after the fundamentals of music are learned. The aim is for you to learn to love to create music!
I love to watch my students grow and achieve things they never thought they could do on guitar! There is a lot of satisfaction in passing on knowledge, and it is also really great to get to know students.
When I perform I am often asked if I give lessons. Early on I was not interested in pursuing teaching because I wanted to focus on performing, but later changed my mind and now enjoy it as much as performing.
After studying classical guitar at the Chicago College of the Performing Arts, I moved to Austin TX and studied jazz guitar with a series of noted jazz recording artists including Glen Rexach, Clay Moore, and Steve Geraci while performing in many Austin groups, including Mosaic and Trifecta. In Salt Lake City, I have formed a jazz guitar duo with Chris Madsen, and play lead guitar with The Imperial Rhythm Boys.

If you have never played guitar before, we will start by learning to read music. By the second lesson you will be playing simple songs. The lessons are progressive so the songs you play are slightly more complex each week. Experienced guitarists receive a tailored approach appropriate to their musical needs and wants.
I work with ages 10 and older.
Every student deserves a teacher that seeks input from his students to guide the lessons in a way that excites your interest.

He was always prepared and had a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from.
My son took lessons from Steve for 2+ years. Steve is a great instructor and musician. My son learned to enjoy his guitar. My son was sad when Steve moved (to join is wife in Utah).
Steve is thoughtful, knowledgeable, and patient teacher. After the first lesson, I learned enough skills to successfully practice on my own. I highly recommend him for learning how to play the guitar.
I took lessons from Steve for about 2 years and I had a great experience learning from him. I was a beginner and did not have any experience in playing music at all. In our weekly half hour lessons he taught me in a very methodical, well thought out way how to read music and constantly improve my skills. I still play and it is a constant source of joy in my life to be able to pick up my guitar and play whenever I want.

Lessons are $25 for a half hour, and $35 for an hour. If you pay monthly there is a 10% discount.
