About Sam
I'm a 66 year old seasoned performer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer with a critical ear and eye for improving work of others. My experience spans about 50 years. I can help others appreciate their skills and what to focus on to take their abilities to higher levels. What I do is not something that takes long to get across, so the number of lessons will be surprisingly short. I don't feed you dinner, I teach you how to feed yourself for life.
My history as a professional musician/songwriter actually started around 1970 in Richmond, VA, when I was 17. After having played guitar and trumpet from the age of 10, at 19, I moved to NJ and eventually became a full-time musician in various settings, including bands, trios, duos and as a solo artist. I also was iinvolved in management, music journalism and theater. At 53, I relocated to Nashville, TN and I've stayed there since 2006. Currently I own a modest recording studio and primarily focus on being with one of the top Americana acts listed on Reverbnation.com, acoustic trio The Chick'N Dix.
I've worked in pretigious concert venues, festivals, bars of every kind, private parties over the decades, including some of Nashville's most prestigious locations, such as The Ryman Auditorium as a featured performer. I've also performed along side of a wide variety of players, some being rock & roll Hall of Famers, Grammy winners, ACM & CMA winners, multi-platinum winners, etc...
My only real certification is that I still do what I love! Many times I've worked with co-writers and music clients who, when I showed them new things (to them), I could see the light bulb go off when they got it. Music theory and the numbers system is easily explained. I didn't know it for the first 11 years that I played, but once it was explained to me in just a few lessons, it became obvious that what I knew from playing by ear was not an accident that needed explaining anymore.
