About Priyanka

I have experience working with students from a variety backgrounds, ranging from writing college admission essays to developing letters of intent for residency program admissions. Coming from a background in AP Literature and AP Language Arts, as well as, in writing university award-winning award winning samples in philosophy, mathematical art, and poetry, I am well-versed in the experience of learning and teaching across different writing composition levels and genres. Regardless of your writing level, I have the experience to help you get to the next level!

I love seeing students develop skills in developing and addressing difficult questions, as well as, in communicating their ideas clearly. Being able to express oneself in a clear manner and understand complex ideas of others are a few of the most powerful skills an individual can have in our society today. Communication is key in every aspect of life– family, politics, academia, work. Seeing young people cultivate these skills is truly rewarding and what I enjoy about tutoring and teaching.

I had writing samples floating around and people really enjoyed my work and so a lot of family and friends asked me to edit their professional or academic work. They shared my service with their friends and so started my experience in tutoring!

I've been teaching Middle School children for four years and so I'm familiar with explaining concepts at an elementary level. I've also been tutoring for six years in many subjects, including math, art, design, history, science, and writing composition. Writing composition has been the most enjoyable teaching experience for me, so I'm happy to continue tutoring students in related subjects! I've tutored high school students in AP level reading/writing composition and I've edited college admission essays as well. In addition, I've worked with PhD students and edited their letters of intent for residency programs.

My process depends on the stage of composition that a student presents to me in asking for help. If the student is at the drafting phase, then we will first understand the prompt/task/question being asked, and then we will develop possible ways to address the question, draft an outline to organize ideas and then start a working draft. I'm happy to provide guidance on whichever stage the student is struggling in at this phase.

Many times, students come to me with a working draft already written. In this case, I edit the paper in a Google doc or by hand (whichever the student prefers) separately, I send the edits to the student to look over, and then I address and explain each edit to the student to clarify revisions. This editing process repeats until the student and I are both happy with the state if the composition!

High school, college and PhD level students.

Hire someone who is willing to develop your skills in the subject with long-term impact. If you have the skills to do well on that one topic for that one exam, then you're rewarded for that one event and one event only. Make sure the time you spend on your skills is an investment for current success AND future success. Develop a versatile and sustainable skillset that will build a path of success rather than just the one step in front of you.

A student I worked with in developing his letter of intent for a prestigious residency program recently told me that he was accepted! His peers, who had similiar grades and experience, did not receive the opportunity and he was grateful for the time and effort we spent in researching and perfecting his letter of intent.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are the problems you're facing? Try to articulate this to yourself or a friend as clearly and specifically as possible. If you can't pinpoint exact problem areas, try to recall a few different instances where you struggled with the subject. Describe it yourself in detail and then summarize them to your tutor. Discover these problem areas and weaknesses in your approach and process in the subject and develop clear goals and exercises to overcome them.
