My teaching approach focuses on building strong analytical skills, clarity of expression, and confidence in handling complex literary texts. Having worked in international schools for over two decades, I understand the expectations of major international curricula such as the IB and Cambridge systems. My lessons are structured yet flexible, tailored to the individual needs of each student.
I use a guided inquiry approach, where students actively engage with texts rather than passively receiving explanations. I focus on helping students understand authorial choices, textual analysis, and argument development, which are essential for success in IB and Cambridge English assessments. Students are trained to move from basic comprehension to critical interpretation and well-structured written responses.
In my sessions, I incorporate a combination of close textual analysis, discussion, exam-focused strategies, and structured writing practice. I also provide clear frameworks, sentence stems, and essay structures that help students develop strong analytical essays and confident oral presentations. For IB students, particular emphasis is placed on preparing for Individual Oral (IO), Paper 1, and Paper 2, while Cambridge students receive targeted preparation for FLE composition, directed writing, and literary analysis.
Lessons are highly interactive, with regular feedback to help students refine their thinking, writing style, and exam techniques.
Typical Length of a Lesson
Most lessons are 60 minutes, which allows sufficient time for discussion, text analysis, and focused writing practice. Depending on the student’s needs, sessions may include essay planning, detailed feedback on written work, or guided practice for oral assessments.
Qualifications and Experience
I have over 20 years of teaching experience in international schools across Asia, teaching English Language and Literature at secondary and pre-university levels. My experience includes preparing students for IBDP English A (SL and HL), IBMYP Language and Literature, Cambridge IGCSE English, and First Language English (FLE).
Through years of classroom teaching and individual mentoring, I have helped students develop strong analytical and writing skills required for high achievement in these rigorous academic programmes.
