About Julia
Hello everyone!
I am Julia Evers, a professional and classically trained flutist and music educator. I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Baylor University in 2019 and my Master's degree in Flute Performance from Florida State University in 2021. I am also state-certified to teach K-12 music.
While at Baylor, I participated in many chamber music ensembles, such as flute ensembles, woodwind trios, a local church orchestra, as well as the Wind Ensemble at Baylor. During my time at Florida State University, I participated in the Chamber Winds Ensemble, Symphonic Orchestra, and Polymorphia, an ensemble dedicated to performing modern and newly composed music. I also am a member and part-founder of Ensemble 126, a dynamic flute ensemble dedicated to expanding the flute ensemble repertoire and utilizes world, historic, and the full range of modern concert flutes.
Before starting my serious music studies, I advanced to the All-State level in the Texas Music Educator's Association and placed in one of the state's top concert bands. I also was a member of the Honor Band of America and Honor Orchestra of America for three years under the guidance of Larry Livingston, Jerry Junkin, and Col. Lowell Graham. These experiences well-equipped me with the knowledge of succeeding in and the process of state to nation-wide auditions and competitions.
My primary flute professors include Eva Amsler, Karen Large, Charlotte Daniel, and Francesca Arnone. I've also had the privilege of participating in esteemed masterclasses and lectures including Denis Bouriakov, Terri Sundberg, Peter Verhoyen, a member of the Pershing's Own, and many more.
I am extremely passionate and enthusiastic about music and its impact on us. While everyone in the world has many differences and perspectives, one thing we can all enjoy together is music. My main goal in teaching is to help guide my students towards their musical successes and accomplishments. I am very proud of my students and their focus on their learning. I started teaching while I was at Baylor University. I trained throughout my whole degree in music education, became state-certified in Texas for K-12 in music, and taught private lessons while student teaching until I graduated. Since then, I went on to start my Master's in performance and taught online for over two years.

When I am first working with a new student, I like to ask them questions about themselves, how much time they spent playing their instrument, where are they from, what other hobbies do they like, and start to get to know them on a personal basis. I like to cover these before we start to play on the flute.
From there, assessing how much knowledge the student has about the flute, I will ask if they have anything in particular they would like to work on or have a significant question in regard to their flute playing.
After that we will work together through a series of exercises and repertoire that will help build the student's bank of knowledge and go over three main points we covered in the first lesson so that the student has something to work over until the next meeting. This process will build over time to create a supportive, honest, and trusting relationship and build confidence in the student's skills. I have worked with different students from different backgrounds and levels. I have worked with beginners in sixth grade all the way through seniors in high school preparing for compeititons, and those in between. I have also worked with students through Zoom and other online platforms.
My main piece of advice is to find a teacher who is supportive, friendly, and while already being knowledgeable about the topic, continuing to expand their knowledge and methods of teaching. I also suggest finding a cohesive relationship where both the student's and teacher's personality work well together.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe when debating taking lessons, students should ask themselves if this is something they are dedicated to learning about and continuously improving on for an extended length of time. Music is a very time-intensive subject and very worthwhile with the proper work and time put in. It makes no good for either student or teacher to be in a situation where one is not serious and not willing to put in their time about the subject.
I also suggest considering the financial cost of lessons and supplies. While there are many great free resources online, it is still a big investment when you think about the quality of your instrument, music, and other accessories.

Perfect! Ms Evers is knowledgeable and corrects and encourages my granddaughter in each lesson. She has given her much needed information on what she is doing wrong and how to correct it. My granddaughters flute playing has improved since starting almost a month ago.
