About Kaylee
Hello! My name is Kaylee Herzog. I am 20 years old and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at the Ohio State University. I have been classically trained in flute for 10 years and Jazz Saxophone for 7 years. I have taught Marching Band clinics for 2 years. I have won scholarships for my participation in marching band and jazz saxophone before. I am most proficient in flute, saxophone, and marching band material. I am looking to share my talents to others who would like to receive more training. I am here to assist any skill level with whatever they are looking to improve in. I hope I can help you in what you want to achieve!
I just love to teach! Teaching something that I love to do is absolutely incredible. I want to help musicians who are passionate about their craft in the same way that I am. What better way to do that then to pass on what I've learned to others.
My first memory of officially teaching started in junior year of high school as a drum major. Drum major duties include helping students with marching technique as well as memorization of show formations and music. I translated that teaching over to the marching band clinics after I graduated high school. I was able to help many students learn their music, memorize their show, and help them with proper marching technique. I was also asked to run music rehearsals with the flute section as well as full band rehearsals before. In college, I've taken courses centered around teaching/rehearsing jazz bands/combos. I've had to rehearse my own combo with my own arrangements/compositions. Teaching has come naturally to me and I don't plan on stopping any time soon.
Music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I started playing the flute in sixth grade and haven't looked back since. I would always strive to become the best I can be. As I reached high school, I was able to branch out and play many different styles and instruments. I love to play classical music, jazz music, and so much more. In high school, I was a member of the wind ensemble, varsity jazz band, varsity mariachi, and indoor percussion ensemble. As I approached college, I have been able to work with some of the best musicians I've ever met. I'd like to take what I've learned from these experiences and share them with whoever would like to receive my teachings!

I always like to get an idea of what the student hopes to accomplish first before we start working on material. Do they want to improve on basic technique? Do they want to get a better tone on their instrument? Do they want to become better at ear training? I want to make sure that I am satisfying the needs of the student while being able to contribute. As soon as I get an idea of what they want to accomplish, I like to center a lesson plan based on that. We will manage to work on different rudiments, exercises, pieces, and more that will help them achieve their goal.
I have worked primarily with high school students, but I have occasionally taught middle schools students as well. I am up for teaching whoever, as long as they show passion for learning about the instrument/music.
Don't be afraid to reach out to multiple teachers! There may be multiple teachers that satisfying what you're looking for. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make sure you're getting the instruction you want.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If you don't know what you're looking for, how is the teacher going to know what you want to learn? Knowing what you want to accomplish while getting lessons is great. If you don't exactly know what you're looking for, don't be afraid to ask more questions!
