About Thomas

Thomas K. Hagood, B.S., SUNY Brockport; M.A., University of Utah; Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison; has served on the faculties of the Florida International University, FL; Mills College, CA; Wichita State University, KS; and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI.
He is widely recognized for his writings on the history of and policy for dance in American higher education. His publications include; A History of Dance in American Higher Education: Dance and the American University (Mellen Press, 2000); Margaret H'Doubler: The Legacy of America's Dance Education Pioneer (Cambria Press, 2006); Legacy in Dance Education: Essays and Interviews on Values, Practices, and People (Cambria Press, 2008); and Perspectives on Contemporary Dance History: Revisiting IMPULSE, 1950-1970 (Cambria Press, 2013). Dr. Hagood is founding/convening president of the National Dance Education Organization (1998-2002), and founding past president of the Florida Dance Education Organization (2001-2003). He is founding editor of the Cambria Press Dance Book Series which he co-edits with Luke C. Kahlich, Ed.D. In 2018 the NDEO will honor Dr. Hagood with a named award, the "Thomas K. Hagood DELRdi Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research" given to an American undergraduate dance major for outstanding research that engages resources included in the NDEO Dance Education Literature and Research descriptive index (DELRdi). Currently, he is retired from FTE work but is on the faculty of the NDEO Online Professional Development Institute, and is owner/operator of URBANEediting; an editing, text development, and coaching service for those who bring creativity to life, work, and communication; in the arts, history, social inquiry, education, performance, publicity, and promotion.
