About Sue
I always try to learn which type of learner any student I take on is - Auditory, Kinestetic, or Visual - so that I may be able to try and adjust my lessons as best as possible for the learning to take the best effect as possible. I always try to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible by trying to peak the interest of the student and willing to try new approaches to see what keeps the attention the best, all so I can ensure to best of my abilities for best learning experience.
I love being able to connect with the kids on a personal level so that the student (especially if a minor) doesn't feel like they're being looked down upon for lack of knowledge. I've had my fair share of teachers throughout my grade school years to make me feel like I was really seen and heard, as well as their equal, and I want to give that back to the community. Having to have my students feel like they enjoy learning through even occassional banters and seeing the students have fun in learning is what makes me love teaching others.
I got started when volunteering at my church as a Youth Group/bible study teacher. I started when my students were 4th graders back in 2009/2010, and stuck with the same set of kids all the way to end of their Senior year in high school in 2009.
I have taken a course through Oxford Seminar to be 120 hours certified in TESL/TEFL/TESOL, and have taken extra courses in Teaching Business English, Teaching English to Young Children, and Teaching TOEFL Prep to have additional 120 hours - Making it total of 240 hours under my belt on teaching ESL/EFL.
On top of the certification, I'm also an ESL graduate from my elementary school years due to having immigrated to the States at a really young age, so I have the experience of knowing the struggles of what it's like to learn a new language.
